Sounds kind of like the one-stops I saw on my trip to England back in 2005. I loved how you could go in and buy everything from laundry detergent to instant jelly to candy to comics, mail your postcards, buy postcards, stamps, and phone cards, and drool over a surprising array of cheeses and other fresh foods. I wish we had something like that here (Northwest FL) because they really were one-stop shops! Instead, we get the grubby Tom Thumbs, etc complete with one employee working at the time (so safe!), drug dealers and greasy rednecks hanging around all day pestering women and girls, people who make you late for work because they insist on buying their twenty lottery tickets one by one and scratching each off at the counter before buying the next one...not to mention the soggy-looking sandwiches and dried-up hot dogs. I do like the slushies though. I just hate that the machines are almost never working! You are right, it is insane that we put up with this. Increasingly, I only use "convenience stores" just to get petrol and bring my own snacks with me from home so that I do not have to deal with all of the craziness, filth, and frustration.
