Coincidentally, I learned this today: 鴉, which is “crow,” is the kanji 牙 + 鳥. The first kanji is pronounced “ga” and the second is “bird,” because the Japanese kanji for crow is “gaa bird,” because that’s the sound a crow makes. As in, “The caw! caw! bird.”
