Every reason is in itself enough to love Japan. My absolute topper is number 33 though (perhaps no surprise when you know I maintain a website about public bathing in Kyoto). Number 31 coming in as a close second. I find myself humming those jingles, especially the Yodobashi one from time to time.

At the end, I was thinking "Is it over already?!" This was so incredibly fun to read. Lately I've been reading lots of articles about Japan that seem to consist mainly of warnings. Don't do this. Don't say that. You'll always be an outsider. Life is hard there. Life is different. Don't expect to fall in love with Japan. It's nice to see an article like this that puts the romanticism back into small moments. So even if all the warnings are true, it's nice to have a reminder of the little things that can make a foreign experience so amazing.

I've been wanting to visit Japan my entire life and recently have taken a very large interest in trying to live there. This post further cements all the reasons I can't wait to go. I'm doing my best to learn as much of the language as I can before I get there, but I have to ask: Is it hard residing there if you're not fluent?

Great post. One of my own faves about Japan (and it's not just limited to Japan in fairness) is the bonkers English that happens when translation goes askew. Sign warning about luggage in a train station in Nagano:

"Please note that there is fear of the fall when it is put on the counter such as the spare pricks"
