Solid! I was thoroughly confused by the Piplotti Rist connection, because I'm a huge fan of her work and this place... did not fit the bill. At all. Thanks for the correction! I'll edit the post to note it.

"If I can create some space that people haven't experienced before and if it stays with them or gives them a dream for the future, that's the kind of structure I seek to create" Tadao Ando
Yes! He did it, for me at least. Wonderful article~ Naoshima opened my awe filled eyes to architecture, space, light and nature. I did well then.

Nice overview of Naoshima with some extra tidbits about Teshima.
May I correct you about one thing though: "a cafe designed by Pipplotti Rist"
You're confusing a few things here.
The place you're talking about is a restaurant called Shima Kitchen that was designed by Ryo Abe (I even think he won some architectural prizes for it in 2010). What's interesting there on top of the building itself that is awesome, is that as you hinted, the food is 100% local, and recipes were designed as a team by the women of Karato (the village) and some chefs from a big hotel in Tokyo (Marunouchi). While the curry is delicious, I really advise the fish and vegetables dish, (it tends to sell out very quickly on busy days though).
Meanwhile, next door, there is a video installation by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist.
